FAQs

What is Giving CMU Day?

Giving CMU Day is 24 hours of generosity in which the CMU community comes together to support the areas of CMU that mean the most to them! On November 28, students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends have the opportunity to give, share the excitement of the day on social media and see their impact multiplied through Giving CMU Day-exclusive matches and challenges.

How do I decide where to give?

Your gift is your choice! That’s one of the perks of Giving CMU Day — you can choose the area of impact for your individual gift and also be part of the day’s collective impact. Each school, department, student organization and program has indicated the funds that most need your support, so if you can’t quite decide where to direct your gift, the Giving CMU Day site is your one-stop-shop for inspiration. We know it’s hard to pick just one area or fund that means the most to you, so you do have the opportunity to split your donation and support multiple areas, all in one transaction.

How do I decide on how much to give?

ANY gift of ANY amount plays a role in taking CMU to the next level. Giving CMU Day is special because it showcases the power of individual supporters coming together to make a collective impact. The minimum donation amount is $5 for the overall transaction.

Is my contribution tax deductible?

You will be sent a tax receipt via email after making your gift. If you have any issues, please email gift-administration@andrew.cmu.edu. Please consult with your tax or financial adviser about the tax-deductibility of your gift.

Can international community members participate in Giving CMU Day?

Yes! If you have any issues with your online gift processing, please email gift-administration@andrew.cmu.edu

When will this year's challenges be announced?

This year's challenge and matching gifts will be announced on November 27 (one day ahead of Giving CMU Day). And you didn't hear it here, but there will be a few surprise pop-up challenges announced on the day itself.

How is my impact multiplied?

A number of matches and challenges will be announced. If your gift qualifies for a match, a generous donor has agreed to match your contribution to the fund you chose. If your gift is part of a challenge, a generous donor has pledged an additional gift toward the fund of their choosing IF that fund reaches a specific dollar or donor amount. When that occurs, the challenge or matching gift will be unlocked and added to that fund's total. Giving CMU Day is one of your only chances each year to see your gift multiplied!

How can my student organization participate in Giving CMU Day next year?

Each year, participation is open to all recognized student organizations at CMU. Student organization representatives are notified via email in early October with information about how to participate. The process includes an application, mandatory training for organization representatives and submission of content about the project/program for which they wish to raise funds. The Annual Giving team uses this content to create a giving page for each participating organization. If you don’t see your favorite organization represented today, encourage them to join us next year! You can also support other student organizations at CMU on Giving CMU Day by choosing the “Other” fund option and writing in the name of the organization you would like to support on the giving form.
